Canada Fibers & Urban Resource Group Sponsor First Lego League Team

Canada Fibers and Urban Resource Group have partnered as a sponsor with ‘Ctrl-Z’, a First Lego League robotics team comprised of students grades 5-8 at Bayview Glen school in Toronto, Ontario.

First Lego League is a global network of 29,000 teams across 80 countries. Teams are tasked with developing a solution for an annual challenge. This year, the challenge is called Trash Trek. We partnered with the team to provide industry insight and mentor-ship as the team embarked on a journey to build a fully-automated and voice-activated waste sorter and receptacle. The team attended the Regional competition late in 2015, winning first place and taking home the prized Robot Performance Award. On January 16 2016, the team advanced to the East Provincial Championships in Oshawa, hosted by the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where they won the Champions Award (1st place) against 39 of the Province’s best teams. Their win allows the team to advance onto the next phase of competition, which is the Post Season International Competition. In the coming weeks, the team will decide where they will travel to tackle the International competition – California, Arkansas, the Philippines, Australia, or Spain. In addition to securing their spot at the International competition, Ctrl-Z also won a Global Innovation Award. This award provides the team with an opportunity to pitch its Smart Sort Trash Bin to industry experts at the inaugural Ontario Innovation Celebration in February. The winner will receive US$20,000 to make their innovation a reality.
